Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes how Sarcastical ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your information. Sarcastical is an iOS app developed by Atypical Apps: a calculator that occasionally comments on the result it gives you.

The short version

Sarcastical has no accounts, no ads and no advertising identifier, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. Nothing you type into the keypad ever leaves your phone. It does send anonymous product analytics — which reaction fired, which screen opened, which setting changed — and there is a switch in Settings that turns that off.

Your calculations never leave your phone

Everything you type into the keypad is evaluated on the device. Your expressions, your results and your history tape are never uploaded, never sent to a server and never seen by us or by anyone else. They are held in memory while you use the app and are not written to any server at any point.

Data stored on your device

Sarcastical keeps a small amount of information in its own app storage, on your device only:

• Whether Quiet mode is on, and your chosen reaction frequency
• Your chosen skin and reveal preference
• A short list of the identifiers of recently shown lines, so the app does not repeat itself
• A counter used to space reactions apart
• Which voices and paper stocks you own
• Whether analytics are switched on, and a count of the days you have used the app

None of this is synced, uploaded or shared. Deleting the app removes all of it.

The written lines, and how they are updated

The bank of written lines ships inside the app, so Sarcastical works fully offline. On top of that, the app reads a public, read-only file of phrases from Google Firestore, so new lines can be added without shipping a new build.

That request is unauthenticated and carries nothing about you: no identifier, no calculation, no result, no device profile. It is a plain download of the same file every copy of the app downloads, and it is separate from the analytics described below. As with any internet request, Google receives the IP address the request comes from as part of delivering it; Google's handling of that is described in the Firebase privacy documentation. Nothing is ever written back — the app has no permission to write.

If there is no connection, the app uses the lines it shipped with and nothing is missed.

Anonymous analytics, and the switch that stops them

Sarcastical uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. The switch is in Settings under Privacy, it ships on, and turning it off stops collection from that moment.

Events describe shape, never content. The complete list of what can be sent:

• A result was calculated, with which reaction fired and which class the answer fell into — never the expression and never the number
• A reveal finished, and whether it was skipped
• A result was copied
• A verdict was opened, exported or dismissed, and which written line it was
• That the app was used again on a later day, so retention can be counted
• The purchase screen was shown, and a purchase was started, finished or restored
• Quiet mode, frequency, reveals, voice or paper stock was changed
• A screen was opened

None of these carry an expression, a result, or anything you could be recognised by. Firebase assigns an anonymous app instance identifier to your installation, which is what allows a returning reader to be told apart from a new one; it is reset if you reinstall the app. Firebase also derives an approximate, country-level location from the IP address the request comes from.

There is no crash reporting SDK, no ad network and no advertising identifier — the AdSupport framework is not linked, and ad personalisation signals are explicitly switched off. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not sell or share any data with data brokers or advertisers.

Purchases

Voices and paper stocks are one-time purchases processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, using StoreKit. We never see your payment details. The app asks Apple which purchases this Apple ID owns and uses only that answer. There is no account, no login and no server of ours involved. There is no subscription.

Which item was bought, and what it cost, is included in the analytics described above, so we can tell whether a calculator with opinions can be sold at all. It is not linked to you, and switching analytics off stops it.

Sharing a verdict

When you tap a verdict, the app builds an image on the device and hands it to the standard iOS share sheet. Nothing is uploaded by us. Whatever you then choose to share it to — Instagram, Messages, your photo library — is governed by that app's own privacy policy from that point on.

Permissions

Sarcastical asks for no permissions. It does not use the camera, the microphone, contacts, the photo library or location.

Children

Sarcastical is rated 4+ and the lines in the core voice are written for that rating. The optional Adults Only voice contains adult language and is rated 18+; it is a separate purchase and is never shown unless it is bought. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because we collect nothing.

Data deletion

Deleting the app removes everything Sarcastical stored on your device, and resets the anonymous identifier Firebase assigned to the installation. Analytics already sent can be deleted on request by writing to the address below. There is no other server-side data of yours, because there is no server of ours.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date at the top. If a change ever means the app starts collecting something, it will be stated here plainly before it ships.
